Product Rating:

We note that these are not 100% American made as some of the boot components are imported, but they are 100% handcrafted in the USA.

They also make work gloves and a leather care product, along with several other boots and shoes for work and play, but these are their best-known work boot and the one that has earned them such a strong reputation.

Danner Quarry USA 8-Inch Work Boot For Men Review – Hard Working Boots

danner quarry boots designAt first glance, these boots look like most any other work boot on the market but don’t let that fool you. On closer inspection, you begin to see some of the design details that leave little doubt that these have been built with an eye toward strength and durability.

It begins with the quality of the leather. They use full-grained leather that has been carefully selected to meet several key quality criteria. There are 9 tests in all that each batch of this full-grain leather must pass before hitting the craftsmen’s workbench and that means there is great consistency in the quality of all the boots they produce.

These boots are lined with GORE-TEX boot liners that help ensure that they are 100% waterproof because working with wet feet is simply not an option, especially in cold winter weather.

Then they use double and triple stitching at various points on the boot and in the join between the uppers and the lowers. This is further enhanced with a single-piece midsole that adds a serious boost to the life of this boot.

As should be expected from a boot that has been produced for more than 10 years, improvements have been made. This includes a reengineering of the stitching placement to reduce wear and an improved collar liner that helps deliver a more comfortable fit right out of the box.

It’s also been reported that the boot, across the ball of the foot, is slightly wider than the original versions and that seems to help reduce the normal break-in period so they can be worn comfortably with much less work.

The sole of these boots is crafted using the Viram Quarry 90° heel. This sole is oil and slip-resistant, especially given the offset lug design that helps ensure proper grip even in the toughest conditions.

The layout also helps release debris that might otherwise have to be scraped from the sole after a hard day at work. These soles and heels are also resistant to electrical shocks.

The fit of these boots is snug at the heel, with room at the toe, and with the combinations, the designer’s goal is to provide a boot that affords great control, and a high level of comfort, without sacrificing any measure of either.

Specifications:

Each pair of boots weighs approximately 70 ounces so while not light, they are comfortably carried on the foot during the longest of workdays.

They are 8’ high, giving good protection, even in very muddy conditions.

These are not insulated so working in cold temperatures for extended periods will benefit from wearing a good pair of insulated socks.

These boots come in three shades of leather upper that includes brown, black, and a slightly lighter distressed brown, all classic work boot colors.

danner quarry usa reviewThey provide excellent traction on slippery terrain and resit oil wicking into the sole of this boot.

The footbed is constructed from OrthoLite and the shank is fashioned from fiberglass.

While comfortable when working indoors, these boots show their full value in outdoor conditions.

Boot sizes start at size 7 and make half-steps up to size 11.5. From these, sizes increase in single increments up to size 15. Widths are standard and wide, across the entire size range.

Those that have worn these boots and speak highly of them all recommend regular care with either Danner’s own leather care product or heavy-duty leather conditioner from Obernauf. Both employ a natural beeswax formula to protect the leather against premature wear and cracking at the creases.
Pros
  • Built for work
  • 100% American Made
  • Durable and comfortable
Cons
  • Not insulated
  • Steel toe is optional

We have seen a few questionable rating on these boots, particularly since the transition they made to 100% local manufacturing. However, these are few and far between. The vast majority of customers rate these at or near 5 stars.

Danner Quarry For Women – Uncompromising Performance

With your first glance at these boots, you’ll be unlikely to see any real difference between these and the men’s version of this boot, and that’s what should be expected since the work being performed and the requirements of that work are the same.

danner quarry quality leatherThey employ the same top quality leather, that goes through all of the same 9 quality checks. This ensures these boots live up to the Danner reputations for comfort and durability.

These boots are lined with the same GORE-TEX boot liners that help ensure that they deliver total against water infiltration while still delivering a breathable shoe. Wet feet are one of the biggest complaints on a job site and these boots do a very good job of avoiding that problem.

The same combination of double and triple stitching is employed to ensure durability, along with the same combination of lace eyelets and studs.

All of the same improvements that have been applied to the Men’s boot are applied here. This includes the re-engineered stitching placement that reduces wear and an improved collar liner that helps deliver a more comfortable fit from the first time they are slipped on.

With dozens of reviews, it is nearly unanimous, these boots are well made and perfectly suited for hard work. The only two complaints dealt with size but if you take your normal show size up by half ( normal 7 to 7.5), you should get a boot that fits perfectly.

Soles on these boots are crafted using the Viram Quarry 90° heel. This sole is oil and slip-resistant, especially given the offset lug design that helps ensure proper grip even in the toughest conditions. The layout also helps release debris that might otherwise have to be scraped from the sole after a hard day at work. These soles and heels are also resistant to electrical shocks.

As mentioned above, the best fit may not be archived with a customer’s normal shoe size. Most customers recommend going a half size larger to get the best possible fit. This seems like a good idea when considering that in cold weather these boots will be slipped over insulated socks.

Specifications:

Each pair of boots weighs approximately 60 ounces so while not light, they certainly aren’t excessively heavy. They should be comfortable even during long days on the job.

These boots are designed for the outdoors. They can be comfortable for indoor work but some of the benefits that have been designed in will be lost without taking them into the rough outdoors.

Boot sizes start at size 5 and step up by half sizes to size 9. They also offer a size 10 and size 11. They are all built with a standard width that is most suitable for a woman’s foot.

Regular care is required to maintain these boots. That includes a quick clean up after the day’s work and regular leather care using either the Danner Leather Care or heavy-duty leather conditioner from Obernauf. Both are based on a beeswax formula that protects the leather against premature wear and cracking at the creases.
